Chapter 13

"Only Phineas never was afraid, only Phineas never hated anyone." - Gene (204)

The quote struck me as how Gene remembers his friend as a compassionate person. Finny was a model of the separate peace. He kept this image throughout the book. He, in my opinion, was the type of person that takes your mind off of something that is drastic in life. I think of Finny as a comedian, or someone that does something to take your mind off of things. Gene is recognizing this and how he should of been more like him.

What does it mean when the author says "if he was indeed the enemy"?
